November Presentation

SMART COMPUTING MAGAZINE

    Mr. Jens Clausen, User Group Representative for Smart Computing will be presenting the Smart Computing family of computer magazines. The magazines include Smart Computing, PC Today, CE Lifestyles and Computer Power User. For years, Smart Computing has an excellent reputation for providing clear explanations of all sorts of technical topics.

    Smart Computing is a monthly magazine devoted to helping users improve their productivity with personal computers. The magazine emphasizes tutorial articles and plain-English writing that defines technical terminology.
    Regular features of Smart Computing include a Q&A section, which answers readers’ questions;
PC Operating Instructions, which focuses on the fundamental skills of using various operating systems; and Quick Studies, which contains how-to articles explaining a single feature of major applications. Other sections cover the Internet, computing basics, upgrading components, troubleshooting, and more. Each monthly issue also includes hardware and software reviews packed with common-sense buying advice based on the needs of real buyers, rather than just technical test results.
    These straight-talking reviews provide insight on the latest and best hardware and software. For additional information please see www.smartcomputing.com

BROADBAND OVER POWERLINES
Cinergy and Current
Communication

    Mister Terry Hom and several other representatives of Current Communications and Cinergy, will give an informative presentation introducing BPL, or Broadband over PowerLines. BPL is an exciting new technology that uses the existing residential electrical power lines combined with special modems that plugs into electrical outlets, to provide residential high speed internet service at speeds of 1 to 3 megabits a second, comparable to broadband service over cable modems or conventional phone lines.
    The local electrical carrier Cinergy partnered up with Current Communications Group in a joint venture that began rolling out the country’s first large-scale commercial installation of BPL service in specific areas of Cincinnati earlier this year. That system is expected to be available to more than 40,000 homes by the end of the year and throughout the tri-state in three years. Representatives will be on hand to answer technical questions and marketing questions.
    This revolutionary technology lets you use the existing power outlets in every room of the home or office for high speed broadband access without special wiring. Current Broadband service provides access to the Internet from the existing power outlets in your home with a special power line modem. When you sign up for a monthly service plan, you get a power line modem to connect to the service free of charge. Once you receive the modem, connect it to your computer with using standard Ethernet cable, plug the modem directly into the power outlet on your wall, register your account and you’re connected!
