RAM BASICS Random Access Memory is a fundamental part of every computer used today. RAM as it is known is used for short-term memory functions and retention as opposed to a Hard Drive which would be used for long term memory. RAM can be the object of you ire as a result of a computer or program lockup or blue screen. Most people have a tendency to blame the operating system or the program that they are currently using as the culprit when in reality it might simply be a defective RAM module that has dropped a bit. Is more memory better? Discussion will include types of RAM like DDR, SDRAM, ECC, EDO, FPM, as well as subsets such as SIMM, DIMM, NON PARITY AND PARITY. The newest type of RAM, DDRII, will soon be making an appearance on the shelves of your neighborhood retailer being faster yet.
You are invited to bring in you suspect RAM from your computer to this meeting where we can test it using a hardware based RAM tester courtesy of Technology Assisting People In Need (TAPIN). We will be able to test 144 and 200 pin laptop memory as well as 30, 72, 168 and 184 pin Ram modules. |
